Digital photography has opened the door to all kinds of image processing technologies, and while something like Photoshop can’t be rivaled, smaller and more intuitive apps have plenty of uses.

Image Tricks is meant to be a user-friendly way for less experienced editors to make the most of their photos. It includes b asic editing tools, all kinds of filters and frames, as well as the possibility to generate new images or backgrounds.

Drop your images and start editing

The user interface is easy to get to grips with, and you can just drop an image in the main UI to get going. Your tools are available on the left, organized into three tabs, with a collapsible image frame sidebar on the right.

Most of the interface is reserved for the image preview, where you can see any modifications being made. You can zoom in or out for more detail, and then click Apply to save your changes before moving on to the next step.

Lots of editing tools and filters

While it’s a fairly simple app, Image Tricks lets you do quite a lot. Editing is limited to things like cropping, rotating, and color correction, but there is a truly impressive number of filters you can work with. Most have customizable parameters that let you get a better result.

Moving past your basic filters and Quartz compositions, the third tabs deals with generating images from scratch. There are several methods you can use, and the result can be used as a background for other projects.

Useful for basic, small-scale image editing

Most tools and filters are available for free, but some require the Pro edition of the app. Still, you have a lot to work with without paying anything, and for simple editing jobs, Image Tricks should be more than adequate.
