KakaoTalk is an easy-to-use macOS app that helps you chat with your Kakao contacts, transfer files and express yourself with various emojis.

Stay in touch with your friends, family and colleagues

KakaoTalk comes with a user-oriented interface where you can view your contact list, find desired friends and search for new ones. While you can view your profile, there is little you can do in KakaoTalk’s main window.

In addition to viewing your friends’ mini-profiles, you can start chatting with them, check their status, exchange files and emoticons. The emoji window gives you instant access to numerous emoji, which are also divided into different groups.

Manually adjust the level of transparency and invite more users to your conversation

Additionally, the top toolbar of the KakaoTalk chat window allows you to adjust the window transparency, disable or enable the built-in notification system, configure the window to float above all other applications, invite other friends to join the conversation or leave the chat room.

It’s also worth mentioning that you need to be signed in from your mobile device before you can sign in from the macOS app. Therefore, if your account was not activated from a supported mobile device, you will not be able to use the desktop application.

Best of all, if you “log out” from your mobile device, your desktop app will automatically log you out, and you won’t be able to log in again unless you log in from your smartphone first. We also had issues trying to add friends from the desktop app.

Lock KakaoTalk, easily view chat history

Ultimately, we were forced to find and add friends through the mobile app and sync the list with the desktop app. Unfortunately, you cannot use KakaoTalk to edit your profile or edit your contact list to remove friends from the list.

On the plus side, you can start a conversation on your phone and continue it on your Mac, or vice versa. Additionally, you can view your chat history and lock KakaoTalk with a password to prevent unauthorized access.
