By default, Keka will place the archive in the same folder as the source file, but via the Preferences window you can define a custom output location, or choose to prompt in each case. Using the latter option may be desirable, as you also have the option to add a custom name to the archive.

Extract compressed files easily

Keka will automatically recognize if a file placed at the top of its window or Dock icon is an archive and automatically start extracting the contents. Again, here you can choose which files to extract: next to the original, in a custom location, or in a user-selected folder.

Additionally, the Keka project provides an Automator workflow designed to help you integrate its services into the Finder’s context menu: just drag and drop the Compress with keka.workflow file into the ~/Library/Services/ folder.
