net library is an open source Java-based command-line tool that lets you manage database modifications and refactorings. Dedicated to multiple developers, the program supports XML, YAML, JSON and SQL formats, various types of databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server, DB2, Firebird, SQLite) and context-sensitive languages.

It provides support for database schema management and source control/version control. All modifications are saved in XML files.

The usage is java -jar liquibase.jar [options] [command]

There are many commands implemented in this application. For example, it is able to create documentation containing details of database changes (dbDoc), generate diffs to double check that changes are recorded in the log (diff, diffChangeLog), and automatically generate SQL scripts for DBA code review or SOX compliance (e.g. rollbackSQL, rollbackToDateSQL, rollbackCountSQL, changelogSyncSQL).

The specified tab can be used to update the database to the current version or changeset, take a snapshot with the current state, mark the current database state for future rollback, verify the changelog for errors, calculate and print the checksum of the changeset, from Delete all saved checksums in the database log, or release all locks on the database change log, etc.

LiquiBase does not require an active database connection (updateSql), can be executed on demand (command line, Maven, Ant) or automatically (Servlet Listener, Spring Listener, JEE CDI Listener), or can be embedded and run through its Java API.

As far as database refactoring goes, the tool allows you to specify the exact SQL to run, as well as create and manage rollbacks. It supports basic and advanced commands such as “Create Table” and “Delete Column”, or “Add Lookup Table” and “Merge Column”.
