Minimalistic Markdown editor

This app is perfect for Markdown users who need more than TextEdit but don’t want a non-native app bloated with unnecessary functionality. MarkEdit is Swift based and has a very small package, which is designed to open and process large files very quickly.

As far as features go, there’s no live preview, but you do get syntax highlighting, a spell checker, support for multiple tabs, and some toolbar options for inserting common syntax elements. The user interface as well as some features of the application can also be customized.

User friendly and non-intrusive

MarkEdit feels great to use. It’s as simple as TextEdit, and even improves on it in several ways. Besides the obvious Markdown-related features, you can use multiple tabs and configure the app to automatically open a new document on startup, something TextEdit still doesn’t let you do.

Compared with many other Markdown applications, this editor feels more clean and lively. You don’t have tons of toolbars and buttons to distract you, no live preview, and no online components. Everything is stored locally and is nowhere to be found.
