Mesh Unfolder is a specialized 3D CAD system for importing and unfolding sheet designs for fabrication or production. Surface mesh geometry is imported from DXF, STL, OBJ or WAV files created in a CAD system such as Autocad and then unfolded (ie flattened) to produce the best flat 2D result. The imported mesh is usually a 3D surface. Once unfolded, it is processed into a “least stress” 2D pattern shape that smooths out the deformation required to form the 2D pattern into the 3D shape. Mesh Unfolder can be used to unfold mesh for many different applications such as sheet metal, inflatable boats, boat panels, shoes, tents, cloth, clothing, aerofoils etc. Once imported, meshes can be split and edited if necessary, which is often done for more effective flattening. Alternatively, Mesh Unfolder can also be used for simple data conversion, loading supported file types and exporting DXF supported by most CAD systems.
