Whether you are using a Mac mini or Mac Pro, or you just connected an external monitor to an iMac or MacBook to get extra screen real estate, it is great to be able to control their brightness using the dedicated keys on the Apple keyboard. Unfortunately, third-party displays usually cannot do this.

monitor It is an open source application that can provide a solution in this situation. It supports a wide range of displays, provided they can be controlled via DDC, and it also allows you to manage their contrast and volume, all of which can be done via the menu bar or keyboard.
After installing the application, you should find its icon in the menu bar. If your external monitor is supported, you will see it here, along with brightness, contrast, and volume sliders. If you don’t have an Apple keyboard, you can use these keys, but the native OSD will only be displayed when the designated keys are used.
From the preferences of the application, you can specify which monitor should be controlled (if you have multiple monitors), hide the contrast slider, and even adjust some advanced settings for each monitor. You can change the polling mode, enable a longer delay, or disable the OSD altogether.
