Mozilla Thunderbird is a fully featured, secure and highly functional email client and RSS feed reader. It lets you manage email efficiently and in style, and Thunderbird filters out spam too. It offers a beautiful and streamlined interface to a very powerful email package.
Not only is Thunderbird a secure email client, a sophisticated and very well integrated Bayesian spam filter weeds out most spam (after some practice). Combine these two aspects of Thunderbird and you get a sensible feature that automatically cleans (potentially dangerous) HTML code and turns off external images for spam or anything else – worms, viruses – you classify as bad email. Although not perfect, a fraud detector detects tactics commonly used to deceive users.
Flexible views, free-form labels and powerful filters, searches and virtual folders (which also work well with IMAP accounts and across email accounts) make it easy to handle large volumes of email. The integrated RSS feed reader extends these possibilities to news.
Tabs
If you like Firefox’s tabbed browsing, you’ll love tabbed email. Tabbed email lets you load emails in separate tabs so you can quickly jump between them. Maybe you’re replying to an email and need to go back to a previous email. Tabbed email lets you keep multiple emails open for easy reference.
Double-clicking or pressing enter on an email message will now open the message in a new tab window. Right-clicking messages or folders will open them in a tab in the background.
When you exit Thunderbird, visible tabs will be saved and restored when you next open Thunderbird. There’s also a new tab menu on the tab toolbar to help you switch between tabs.
Search
The new search interface in Thunderbird 3 includes filtering and timeline tools to find the exact email you’re looking for. Thunderbird 3 also indexes all your emails to help you search even faster. Your search results appear in a tab so you can easily switch back and forth between your search results and other email.
Message archive
If you think you’ll need an email in the future, but want it out of your inbox without deleting it, archive it! Archiving helps you manage your inbox and put your email into a new archive folder system.
By selecting the Archive button or pressing the ‘A’ key your email will be archived.
Customize your email experience
Thunderbird is flexible to fit your personality, to give you the features you need, and to suit your work style. Change the way Thunderbird looks or add as many features as you like.
Thunderbird look and feel
With Personas, lightweight “skins” let you change the look and feel of Thunderbird in an instant. Hundreds of skins are available from the latest movies, famous landmarks and Japanese tattoos. You can also choose from several themes that dress up all the different icons in Thunderbird.
Smart folders
Smart folders help you manage multiple email accounts by combining special folders such as the Inbox, Sent or Archive folder. Instead of going to the inbox for each of your email accounts, you can see all incoming email in one inbox folder.
Add-ons Manager
Find and install add-ons directly in Thunderbird. You no longer need to visit the add-ons website—instead just turn on the Add-ons Manager. Not sure which supplement is right for you? Reviews, recommendations, descriptions and photos of the supplements in action help you choose.
