Two very different interface modes, each offering a different experience

When you launch the app for the first time, you will be prompted to choose between a classic user interface and a more modern interface designed for touch screen devices.

Although the latter is more impressive from a visual point of view and provides some additional features, it is difficult to use without a touch screen display. Given that no macOS device uses such hardware, including this interface mode is a bit puzzling.

Assuming you stick to the classic user interface, it has a very simple layout and is divided into multiple panels. The leftmost one is used to search for items and filter them based on their tags or creation date. The middle panel lists all papers that meet the selected criteria, and the selected notes can be viewed and edited in the rightmost panel.

The app allows you to create normal notes and to-do lists, but you can’t quickly switch between these categories. Although various types of paper filters can be used, they have no effect.

You can attach images to your notes, but you can only open them when using a modern interface, which also includes some basic drawing tools and allows you to share your papers via email.

Papyrus can store your data in a tank and synchronize notes via Dropbox, as well as back up your database locally.

To prevent other users from accessing private information, you can enter a password that you need to enter every time you start the application.

Overall, Papyrus is clearly still in the early stages of development, as it requires a lot of work to be considered a reliable alternative to the more popular note manager.
