Preview is a decent image viewer, but it’s not suitable for easily browsing all the images in a folder, and your only other option is Quick View, which has very limited functionality.

You can have one or more application windows open at the same time, you can pin images to the desktop without any UI elements, and you can pin images or text to the desktop.

Picview has all the features you’d expect from a high-quality image viewer, and it’s definitely an improvement over Preview’s fast navigation. Although it’s a paid app, it’s reasonably priced, which is a good thing considering the limitations of the demo version.
