While the classic Windows ping utility is very powerful in its own right, there’s always room for improvement. There are many parameters you can use in your commands, but you may need to resort to third-party applications to perform certain operations.

power level is a lightweight command line program that, in addition to letting you ping various hosts, also allows you to obtain location information and customize ping packet messages. Additionally, it colors the results for easier reading.

Provides standard ping functionality, plus some additional features

As expected, you can ping a target simply by entering its address, and you can also specify the number of pings that should be sent, set timeouts, time-to-live, and intervals between packets. The utility allows you to ping the target until it stops, and you can choose to force IPv4.

However, PowerPing also allows you to change the default ping message and color the results based on their status. Therefore, it is easier to find successful pings and timeouts while scrolling.

Gather location information about the current host or other address

You can use the online service to find your current public IP address and other relevant location data by simply entering a short command.

Additionally, PowerPing can provide useful information about any other domain, such as its IP address, country, region, city, zip code, time zone, and coordinates.

Handy ping tool with some useful extras

Obviously, the application provides you with some very useful features such as location data, ICMP packet information, and result coloring. But make sure you run it in administrator mode or you won’t be able to send pings.

If you find that the Windows ping utility doesn’t provide you with all the tools you need, PowerPing may be the solution. It does pretty much the same thing, but the extra features it offers make it a worthy choice.
