Shazam is designed to use your Mac’s built-in microphone to collect short samples of the music being played. Using the collected data, Shazam automatically creates an acoustic fingerprint and compares it to a central database for matching.

In other words, you can use Shazam to retrieve detailed information about the currently playing track and find out the artist, song title and album.

On top of that, Shazam provides relevant web links to services like iTunes, and even pages with more information on songs and artists, as well as links to buy from iTunes. Best of all, you can preview found tracks and other songs from the album directly on Shazam’s discovery page.

Shazam runs quietly in the background, listening to the sound captured by your Mac’s microphone. Once matched, Shazam automatically displays a notification with the song’s title and artist via macOS’s Notification Center.

Easily track and share all your discoveries

All detected tracks are added to a playlist, which you can view through Shazam’s status bar menu, where you can access lyrics, music videos, and iTunes purchase links. The Options submenu helps you configure Shazam to start automatically at login.
