Photo metadata is incredibly useful for organizing images, but when multiple cameras are used, it’s important for them to be synchronized. If that’s not the case, you’ll need to correct the embedded time and date info.

shootShifter is a specialized app created for this purpose. It allows you to import multiple photo albums, usually captured by different people with different cameras, and make adjustments to their timestamps, geotags, and other info embedded into the pictures.

Easy adjustments via a timeline view

Normally, you import images stored in one or more folders, and they are all shown in the same timeline. Only one album can be active at a time, but generated thumbnails for all other albums are also displayed as a reference.

Then, making adjustments is as simple as dragging one of the image’s thumbnails to the left or right, or entering the right values in the upper-right corner of the UI. All photos in an album are normally adjusted by the same amount, but you can also make changes to individual photos separately.

Rename files and change location info

Images can be named based on the embedded date and time data, but if that was modified, the files will need to be renamed as well. Thankfully, shootShifter can also take care of that when changes are exported.

Aside from the multiple other view modes, the app also lets you see geotags on a map, and you can adjust locations or add new ones if some capture devices did not embed this info.

Intuitive, customizable UI

The user interface is fit to purpose, making it easy to handle multiple albums in the same window. You can also switch between several view modes, such as the timeline, a file list, time grid, and map. These panels can be combined in any layout that is ideal for your workflow.

For such a specialized app, shootShifter doesn’t really have any downsides. It excels at enabling you to quickly redate and rename multiple photo albums, with images captured by different devices. It’s easy to work with, powerful, and customizable.
