Powerful and incredibly intuitive drawing software, with a simple user interface and easy-to-learn tools, suitable for beginners and experts
New features in SketchBook 8.7:
- We deleted the initial screen that appeared at startup, so there is no longer a need to log in, or even log in anymore.
- Note: If you are not a SketchBook Pro (enterprise) user, but created an Autodesk account, you may want to delete it. For instructions on how to do this, see the article “Delete your Autodesk account”.

For Mac drawing software, artists are very fond of it, because there are many excellent applications available. Some are paid, but you can find free or even open source software, which is almost as good as commercial software.
Sketchbook It used to spend money, but now it’s completely free. Once you start using it, it becomes clear why you have to pay a certain price before. It has a concise user interface, enough tools for professionals, and it may be the softest learning curve of all the drawing applications I have tried.
Very simple and fun to use
For those who are just starting out, SketchBook will be very easy to learn. All your important tools are easily accessible, so you don’t need to spend an hour to figure out how to do something. As long as you have at least a basic understanding of what the drawing involves, you can master everything in a few minutes.
The application is very easy to control with the tablet pen. To navigate, just press the space bar, then use the tools on the screen to pan and zoom. To change the attributes and color of the pen, simply click on the two discs in the upper left corner and move the pen in a specific direction.
Any user is powerful enough
Although the app is now free, SketchBook used to be a paid product, so it has all the features you would expect from a commercial app. Including a large number of brushes, you can create your own brushes and share them, unlimited layers and multiple blending modes, and a rich color library.
Among some useful tools, we can mention SketchBook’s predictive stroke and stable stroke functions, which can help you draw smoother lines and shapes using two different methods. The first polishes the stroke after drawing, while the second essentially drags the pen behind the cursor to eliminate jagged movement.
Probably the best drawing application user interface
If you are looking for the most paper-like drawing experience, SketchBook can definitely provide. After disabling unnecessary UI elements and switching to full screen mode, you will be able to use the entire desktop space freely.
There is no title bar, no status bar, no sidebar that occupies one-third of the screen. The app is designed to be used effectively, and there is almost nothing that can obscure your graphics, except for tools that you really can’t have.
I recommend SketchBook to all users who are just starting to use digital drawing. It has enough features to suit experienced artists. Most importantly, it also works on Windows, iOS, iPadOS and Android.
