There are many network traffic monitors available for all platforms, but they tend not to be very beginner-friendly. Many users will try it first, and give up when they can’t figure it out.

sniffing net is a great tool to start with and more complex programs to follow if it doesn’t have all the features you need. It comes with an intuitive user interface that lets you start monitoring adapters in seconds.

While it can’t match WireShark in terms of complexity, Sniffnet is easier to learn. You simply select an adapter and start monitoring. Some filters will help reduce the amount of unnecessary data, but they are also easy to add.

Traffic can be filtered by IP version, transport protocol, and application protocol. If you’re looking for something in particular, this is how you can ignore packets you’re not interested in.

Simple and clean data visualization

Once monitoring is started, the data is plotted as a real-time graph that can show packets or bytes per second, with incoming and outgoing data displayed separately.

On the right, you can see any active filters, the number of filtered packets, and packets filtered by application protocol.

Finally, all filtered packets are listed at the bottom of the UI, including source and destination IP addresses, port, layer, number of packets, and total size. The complete report can be opened in a text file for further analysis and processing.

Ideal for quick network traffic analysis

Again, Sniffnet doesn’t offer anything close to what’s found in more sophisticated traffic monitors, but it’s designed for users who don’t need that level of sophistication. It’s easy to use and full-featured, making it perfect for those who aren’t particularly tech-savvy.
