Soundplant is a revolutionary new technology that allows you to create your own sound and music almost in the comfort of your own home. Soundplant does not require special equipment. It works by converting analog audio signals into digital data that can be played back with dedicated sound modules on personal computers. Soundplant comes with a collection of over 150 pre-programmed sounds, including live musicians and recording artists. Soundplant was developed by a string instrument technician and sound engineer who left his job as an audiologist to pursue his passion for a PhD in electronic music technology at a university.

The creators of Soundplant are currently working on version 4.0, which will allow users to transfer their files directly from their hard drives to Soundplant’s servers. The download process will be incredibly easy with a new feature called Short Effects Streaming, or SES for short. SES will allow you to upload a single short effect file (such as an acoustic bass part) and upload it to a server where it can be played without any downloads. In the meantime, Soundplant users can continue to upload their audio files to their hard drives, although the audio files uploaded to the server will have better sound effects and the ability to run more complex sounds with new modules like the Multi-FX processor. .

Soundplant’s most interesting module, Multi-FX, is used by musicians and sound engineers as a powerful multi-effects processor. Multi-FX has been designed to take common midi keyboard sounds and combine them into complex percussive sounds that are beyond what a regular midi keyboard can reproduce. A typical midi keyboard is capable of playing the sounds of certain midi instruments such as kick, snare, hi-hat, cymbals, etc., but cannot play wah-wah or lead guitar effects. The Multi-FX has been designed so that any user can connect it to any other multi-effects processor, and even connect it to a rack-based virtual deck similar to the one you find in popular live venues. Multi-FX is also a great way to add other equipment such as a sound card or rackmount cabinet.
