voice center Offers you the possibility to organize news feeds or articles so that you can read them aloud while you work on other tasks. The utility relies on the macOS text-to-speech feature, which can be controlled via VoiceOver.

Import RSS feeds or individual website or article pages

The Speech Central app organizes resources by type: title, article, audio file, old article, or trash. Remember, all articles you read are automatically sent to the Old Articles Smart Folder.

For your convenience, Speech Central provides a list of popular websites you might want to start monitoring, offers you the possibility to navigate to a specific website to add it to your collection, and can also handle RSS feeds or OPML files.

Additionally, Speech Central gives you the option to add individual files (DOCX, PPT, PDF, EML, EPUB, FB2 or Daisy) and can quickly generate audio files with text-to-speech rendering. Note that in the application’s preferences you can decide if you want to make M4A or AIFF audio files.

Control speech rendering with built-in player

From the Speech Central preferences, you can also choose whether the speaking voice is male or female, choose a random choice, or use one of the system’s default voices. Also, you can adjust the reading speed.

Other options include the possibility to limit feed or digest length, skip old titles or toggle the autoplay feature. The built-in audio player comes with basic playback controls, but keep in mind that you can get more options through the status bar menu.

Text-to-speech player that helps you stay on top of reading

Speech Central works with websites and RSS feeds, as well as individual article pages or documents, all of which help you stay up-to-date and catch up with your reading progress.

The Speech Central utility simply reads everything aloud, allowing you to multitask while driving, commuting, and more. What’s more, since it can be mastered through VoiceOver, it’s very useful for legally blind users.
