Is TeamSpeak better than Discord?

Both Discord and TeamSpeak are aimed at gamers, although all kinds of communities have migrated to Discord because of its simplicity and features. TeamSpeak works best as an audio chat app that allows players to talk to each other while playing. While Discord also includes video chat.

Why do people still use TeamSpeak?

TeamSpeak is still popular among some users, mainly because it offers excellent voice quality while optimizing for bandwidth, thus avoiding lag during gameplay. It also includes an in-game overlay to communicate with your friends while playing either via text or voice.

Is TeamSpeak free?

Yes, TeamSpeak is free. You can access any public server, create a private server, or if you have your own, you can set up your own private server for free.

Does TeamSpeak include text chats?

TeamSpeak is a VoIP communication platform and focuses mainly on audio chat, although TeamSpeak includes basic text messaging features and group chats. If you are interested in text and video chatting, you should check out Discord which is also free and available for most operating systems.

Is TeamSpeak secure?

TeamSpeak offers AES-based encryption on all voice packets as an optional server feature. For this you need to enable “Channel voice data encryption” for all channels.

Is TeamSpeak compatible with Linux?

Yes, TeamSpeak has native apps for Windows, macOS, Linux and servers as well as for mobile platforms such as Android and iOS.

Characteristics

Our next generation TeamSpeak 3 software has been greatly improved compared to its predecessors. First, both the client and the server are now available as a flexible cross-platform solution for Windows (32bit and 64bit), Mac OS X (Intel and PPC) and Linux (32bit and 64bit). All platforms are 100% cross-functional and feature-rich, so no matter which platform you use, all new features will be available on all platforms on TeamSpeak 3’s launch date.

Our engineers have rewritten the code from the ground up using C++ to improve TeamSpeak’s performance and compatibility. This allows TeamSpeak 3’s native binaries to be built from the same codebase for different target operating systems.

TeamSpeak 3 also includes a robust cross-platform software development kit (SDK) that enables voice integration with any feature of existing products or services, including online games, virtual worlds, educational programs, military simulators or any application where up to thousands of users need crystal-clear, simultaneous voice communication.

Improved voice quality and latency

TeamSpeak 3’s voice quality is truly revolutionary. With completely new codecs, automatic microphone adjustment, advanced noise reduction and echo cancellation, TeamSpeak 3 offers only the highest quality in voice communication. Users can finally say goodbye to echoes, feedback and background noises as the evolution of high-quality voice communication has come. In addition, we have significantly reduced latency (the time it takes for your voice to be “heard” on the other end) compared to TeamSpeak 2 and other voice communication software solutions.

Adding the list higher

TeamSpeak 3 was designed with cutting-edge hardware in mind. Thus, it will have full support for the latest G-keys from Logitech® as well as other currently unannounced hardware manufacturers.

It is also possible to connect to multiple servers at the same time using ‘tabs’ similar to those found in most browsers, so now you can manage or participate in multiple TeamSpeak 3 servers at the same time. In addition, support for multiple audio devices and outputs over simultaneously connected servers is also available. Favorite servers are now saved as bookmarks, just like your favorite browser.

Amazing 3D sound effects

TeamSpeak 3 now has fully integrated 3D audio support that allows spatial placement of sound effects and audio streams. This creates the illusion of a sound source located anywhere in three-dimensional space, including behind, to the left of, to the right of, above or below the listener. The possibilities and uses of 3D audio are practically endless with TeamSpeak 3. Other TeamSpeak users can be virtually placed around your own audible position. Place conference hosts in front of participants or teammates around your own player position. No special hardware is required. Just use the headset or 5.1/7.1 speakers to enjoy surround sound.

Powerful permission system

The TeamSpeak 3 server has a completely overhauled hierarchical permission system with the ability to dynamically create, define and apply group permissions as you wish. This gives server administrators superior control and powerful tools to manage and build social networks.

Improved security and privacy

TeamSpeak 3 introduces a new authentication system. Instead of using a username and password combination, the TeamSpeak 3 client creates unique identities that are stored and tracked by each TeamSpeak 3 server you connect to. For administrators, this eliminates the need to manually register a username and password on the server and allows administrators to assign a set of permissions to your identity that can be automatically revoked by the server each time you connect. The end result is enhanced security and improved administration with eliminated username and password issues, effectively making the process of managing users far less tedious than ever before.

Friends and enemies

Track your friends (and enemies) through TeamSpeak 3’s all-new friends/enemies list. When a friend or foe is added, the TeamSpeak 3 client remembers your friend or foe’s unique identity regardless of whether they change their view/nickname, and regardless of which server you are connected to. TeamSpeak 3 allows you to assign a custom nickname to your friends and can play a custom audio event when your friends come online. TeamSpeak 3 also tracks the “last seen” date of friends/enemies and allows you to mute/ignore your enemies permanently.

Firewall-friendly file transfer

Maximize your online collaboration experience with TeamSpeak 3’s all-new file transfer capabilities. Depending on your permissions, users can recursively upload or download files per channel or to a shared folder tree. All files are saved directly on the TeamSpeak 3 Server. Users no longer have to worry about how to configure FTP or mess with complicated firewall issues or other file sharing solutions. TeamSpeak 3 makes file sharing a breeze.

Improved licensing system

TeamSpeak 3 Server introduces a completely new licensing system that includes simplified, automatic and efficient tracking of all your licensed servers. The previous tedious “registration via IP” process has been replaced with an encrypted key that allows your TeamSpeak 3 Server environment to be automatically tracked and licensed. As an additional option, the TeamSpeak 3 client can also indicate to users who the hosting provider is and provide a link back to your website.
