Version is a very simple application that gives you a simple version control system that anyone can use out of the box. It is very easy to set up and can be fully automated or manually controlled.

Version control for any type of file

To get started, just add one or more files. The first version will be stored in the database and once any modification is made to the file, other versions will be created and saved. You can go back and visit any of them at any time.

The database can be left in its default location or moved to another location. If you prefer, you can move it to a cloud sync folder and store the backup in the cloud using tools like iCloud, Dropbox or Google Drive.

Easier to set up than Time Machine

While Time Machine is a great feature, it’s not suitable for every situation. It needs a separate drive to store backups, you can’t just keep track of one or two files and ignore everything else. You can add exceptions, but it’s mostly for large-scale backups.

Versions are designed to be fast and simple. It only monitors the files you add, no need for a separate drive, and if you want to have full control, you can even disable automatic backups and manually create new versions of each file.
