Until Apple decided to give us a menu bar weather app, all we had were third-party solutions. Thankfully, there are many such examples, and they vary in complexity.
weather
certainly looks like a good fit
The first thing you’ll notice is that the app is a great fit for macOS. The temperature display in the menu bar does not look obtrusive, and the menu design is the same as other operating system UI elements. In short, it doesn’t stand out.
If you want more information at a glance, you can display “feels like” temperature, relative air humidity, wind, UV index and pressure as menu bar elements. However, this requires a Plus subscription.
All the info most people need
Unless you’re a meteorologist, Vitro tells you everything you need to know about the weather. Local temperature, humidity, wind and air pressure paint a complete picture, along with UV index and cloud cover.
The hourly forecast is displayed up to three hours in advance, and in the Plus version up to twelve hours in advance. You can choose which parameters should be tracked, change the refresh interval and choose your preferred temperature scale.
Great for tracking local weather at a pretty affordable price
It’s worth pointing out that Vetero provides data based on your current location, you can’t track the weather in other cities.
The free version is definitely usable, the biggest drawbacks are the limited refresh interval (100-120 minutes) and limited hourly forecasts. If you want to get the most out of these features, and everything else you get with a Plus subscription, the pricing is very reasonable, and for such a well-designed app, it’s worth it.
