More and more devices are starting to offer HDR support, including some of Apple’s latest monitors and laptops. HDR-capable displays support significantly higher brightness, but this range is generally reserved for HDR content.

Vivid lets your Mac use the display’s full supported brightness at all times, not just when viewing HDR content. If you work in a well-lit room or find yourself using your MacBook outdoors a lot, this extra brightness will make it easier to see what you’re doing in the sun.

Essentially, once configured, you’ll have access to a wider range of brightness. Of course, the app should be disabled when viewing HDR content. It’s easy to do this from the app’s menu bar icon – just right-click on it to quickly turn the brightness feature on or off. From here, you can also hide the Dock icon and manage it only from the menu bar.

When trying out the app, you can use split-screen mode to see the noticeable difference between regular and boosted brightness. This is the only mode available in the unlicensed version, allowing you to try the app before purchasing.
