The VRtous Companion app is a Windows tool for connecting pianos and Oculus Quest devices. It complements VRtous by Pavel Marceluch, designed to teach piano in virtual reality. The original program and companion application are still in development, and features are constantly being added to improve the user experience.

What is VRTous?

You will need physical piano and VRtous program to use this application. The latter is a pun on the virtue you will become by using it. This piano learning app with a completely different approach than Flowkey or Vivace.

The program allows you calibrate your real piano into the system and import the songs you want to learn. The virtual reality headset displays notes falling directly on the keys, making it easy to practice and learn new pieces. This also allows you set up the learning environment

How does the companion app help?

The companion app is a must if you use VRtous with a midi piano and a Quest headset. It connects the two, allowing you to enjoy it all. virtual reality program should offer. This is a simple panel on your Windows PC. There is no mobile app yet, unfortunately.

After you select your input and output devices, visit VRtous and check the top left panel. There you will find the desired IP address. You can complete the process by pasting it and clicking Connect. You will establish a connection in a second, making the program responsive and ready to teach you midi piano songs.

Possible performance issues

Since this is still a developing project, the program and application have frequent performance issues. Luckily, most of these are easy to resolve by restarting your devices, making sure your Quest and PC are on the same Wi-Fi network or hotspot, and checking if your firewall is blocking communication. If these solutions don’t work, you can contact the developer community on Discordeither the creator himself or a member of his network.

Mandatory Companion

All in all, downloading this app makes sense if you use VRtous. The Windows program is very useful for connecting the piano to an Oculus device via local Wi-Fi. In addition, it is still under development and many handy features have not yet been created to improve performance.
