WizTree is a very high-speed disk space analyzer tool for Windows. It scans your hard drive and shows you which files and folders are using the most disk space. The entire hard disk file system is displayed visually, making it very easy to find large files and folders. Use the information WizTree provides to quickly find and remove “space hogs” from your hard drive.

When scanning NTFS-formatted hard drives (most modern hard drives use this format), WizTree reads the hard drive’s Master File Table (MFT) directly from the disk. MFT is a special hidden file used by the NTFS file system to keep track of all files and folders on a hard drive. Scanning for files in this way completely bypasses the operating system (Windows) and provides a huge performance boost.

WizTree can also scan non-NTFS hard drives, network drives, USB drives and individual directories.

Multiple file systems

WizTree can scan all hard drive types supported by Windows (NTFS, FAT, FAT32, network, etc). MTP/PTP devices such as smartphones and cameras can also be scanned when connected via USB.

Visual tree map

The visual tree map displays all files and folders visually based on their size. This allows you to view large files and large collections of smaller files at a glance.

Find the largest files

“File view” shows every single file and folder on the hard drive in order of size.

File name search

Find files quickly by name or type using the file view search filter. Wildcard search is also supported (eg *.mp3)

Export file and MFT data

All or selected file information can be exported to CSV (comma separated values) file or copied to clipboard. MFT files can be extracted and dumped into a file.

Import file and MFT data

Exported CSV and dumped MFT files can be imported back into WizTree for viewing. Great for tracking file system changes over time.

Command line support

Export of CSV and MFT files can be done via command line parameters. Great for automated auditing of hard drives.

It is free

WizTree is free for personal use. However, you can help support further development and use it commercially by purchasing a “Supporter Code”. Large organizations should purchase an Enterprise license for unlimited use.

What is new

• Regular Expression search added. To perform a regex search, type a slash immediately followed by the regex, for example:
  • /[0-9]{4}-[0-9]{2}-[0-9]\.csv$
• If the regular expression contains spaces, enclose it in double quotes, like this:
  • /”[0-9]{4} [0-9]{2} [0-9]\.csv$”
• Regular expression searches can be used for file searches and include/exclude filters
• Search History drop-down menu added File Search and Include/Exclude filters
• Include/exclude filters can now only be applied to the full path (default) or filename
• New command line parameter /filterfullpath=[0|1] added to check whether filters are only applied to the full path or filename. Default is full lane.

• Added support for DrivePool, storage spaces and other similar “virtual” drives (WizTree would crash or stop working when scanning these types of drives before)
• Importing a CSV file will show wrong file dates/times due to time zone adjustment error – fixed
• Fixed possible “Access Violation” error on startup when scanning for devices such as mobile phones
• default sorting can now be set via the command line /sortby=sortoption, where sortoption can be
  • 1 = sort by file size (desc), file name
  • 2 = sort by assigned size (desc), filename
  • 3 – sort by modified date (desc)
• The percentage of station calculations (file view) was wrong when multiple stations were selected – fixed
• WizTree will now remember whether tree and file view data is sorted by size or allocated and use the same sort order when restarted
