Here’s a small project I worked on for a client (it’s been a few years) who unfortunately – or perhaps fortunately – switched to Linux. Now I can release it publicly. I took another look at it and tweaked a few business features for private users, some of which even come from Winpilot. Other than that, this program has nothing in common with my other little apps under the hood, as it is designed with a focus on durability and longevity.

The original and my fork were originally written in C++. For the relaunch I have rewritten it in C#. The app looks exactly like the original and does the same, but now it’s for Windows 11. It was and is a relaunch of the legendary little helper, XP-Antispy, which was indispensable under Windows XP. Does anyone know what happened to the developer Chris from back then?

The “XP” in the name has now become a smiley “XD”, which stands for eXtreme Defense, although it also carries the playful connotation of the smiley. The app continues the versioning from where the original left off, at version 3.98. If you are interested, feel free to try it, share it and I will be ready to release the code soon.

What is new

• The last stable version of XP-Antispy was 3.98-2. I’m now continuing with version 4.0 (although this is the very first public release of the app)
• The small tool has now entered its stable phase. I have rewritten all the functions from my old C++ version to C#. If you are missing something from the classic XP-AntiSpy, please feel free to submit a feature request. Just a warning: I’ve covered localization and will be rolling out translations in upcoming versions. The nostalgic look of XD-AntiSpy – don’t let that fool you, it’s on purpose – is combined with smart features. And don’t worry, Clippy from Winpilot won’t bother you here anymore.
