Genymotion for Mac is an easy-to-use Android emulator designed to help app developers test their products in a secure virtual environment.

To install Genymotion for Mac, simply drag and drop the included applications into the Applications directory*. Developers provide support for various versions of the Android operating system; 2.3 to 5.0. In addition, Genymotion for Mac can also simulate the characteristics of many devices.

Once you are logged in, you will see the launch screen. From here, you can click “Add” to select and download the Android environment for emulation. There are a number of different tablets and phones available, each supporting different builds of Android operating systems. Next, you just need to start your virtual machine, and viola! you will now be able to run an emulated android environment where you can test what you need as if it were running on a real device.

As you would expect, the interface is easy to navigate and quite intuitive. As for the virtual machine you choose, Genymotion for Mac helpfully downloads and then automatically deploys all the necessary configuration files that are required for each virtual device. This means that your input is limited to a few simple mouse actions. The app also comes with a set of additional tools to help you with your virtual navigation. You can usually find them on the right side of the main window. If you need to adjust settings such as battery level and GPS, you can do so here.

All in all, Genymotion for Mac works very well. If you have a powerful Mac, you’re in for a treat as productivity translates into fast interaction with Android’s virtual machine virtual machine. Ideally, the application is suitable for gaming and product testing, and developers will appreciate the available plugins and tools, such as the Android Debug Bridge (ADB), etc.

*Please note: Genymotion for Mac emulations run on the VirtualBox engine, which must be installed on your Mac before running the application.
