Granny is an independent horror game in which the player must escape from a monstrous kidnapper named Granny. The game starts with you already trapped in grandma’s house, so the goal is to find items to help you escape. Items include common household items, hardware, and weapons. In addition to being able to collect tools, you must have the right combination of tools to clear a path and help you escape. The house is six stories high, including two attics and one garage, but Grandma can still easily move around the house. This means that you must always be fast but quiet, otherwise Grandma will catch you.

Gameplay

Grandma starts with you alone in a dark room. You will find that the main door of the house is locked with different locks. You begin to notice an older figure appearing. This is Granny, the titular and main antagonist of this game. She is a cruel being who destroys everything that makes noise. For now, the goal of the game is to escape. You can leave the house by exiting through the main door or by driving out of the garage.

To get through the main door, you need to find all the keys that open it. It takes longer, but is much quieter. Escaping with a car in the garage is much faster, but it requires finding gasoline, a car battery, a spark plug, a wrench, engine parts, and car keys. The objective of the game is to avoid the grandmother and the traps she has set around the house. She has excellent hearing, so any sound can direct her in your direction.

It can be subtle, like the creaking of a floorboard, or thunderous, like an object falling to the ground. As soon as she hears you, she will start running in your direction. Its speed depends on the difficulty level of the game, which ranges from easy to extreme. There is a practice mode that allows you to freely roam the house without Grandma being present. You can also test yourself in Nightmare mode. This adds more challenges to the Extreme level, such as darker rooms, bloodier surfaces, and more traps.

Granny has a terrifying premise, but balances it out with blocky graphics. This makes it easier for the computer to render the game and in turn makes it more accessible to the players.
