Q. How do you feel about Apple’s decision to ban Scratch on iPhone and iPad? A. We are very disappointed with Apple’s decision not to use Scratch on their mobile devices. The Scratch app was one of the highlights of the iPhone and iPod touch, as it allowed kids to create original games, interactive experiments, and even fine art. Kids across the country are experiencing a renaissance in learning how to develop their creativity with new technology, and Apple has been one of the driving forces behind this movement.

QA While we fully understand that Apple has made this decision to restrict content available on the iPhone and iPad, we believe the company has done so in a misguided attempt to appease its diehard hardware aficionado. While it’s true that most adults are familiar with Scratch to some degree, there are many parents and other young learners who don’t have that history. In light of this, it seems that Apple is missing out on opportunities in its efforts to create a more comprehensive learning environment for young learners.

QA While we acknowledge that Apple made the mistake of not including Scratch on the first two devices, the iPhone and iPod Touch, they needed to do so to appease the Scratch community. As millions of parents and other young learners experience a renaissance in learning to develop their creativity with new technologies, it is imperative that the innovative and problem-solving educational apps developed by these companies are available to them.
