Unarchiver is one of the most popular unarchive applications for Mac computers. It performs better than the native OS X application because it can handle more file formats and is faster. The integration of this application with Finder is also good. Moreover, the application can even process filenames containing foreign characters. Supported formats include Tar-BZIP2, Rar, Tar-GZip, Zip, 7-Zip, StuffIt and LhA.
It does exactly what it was designed to do, without any frills. It is one of the best packages for decompressing files and is also available for free. The interface of this simple application is very clean. When the application is launched, it shows a settings window and also offers one of the 58 file formats it supports. So you can be sure that most formats will be accepted by this application. You can check the formats you usually come across and then the utility will focus only on them. You can choose all of them if you don’t want to be too picky about your choices.
You can choose where to put all the extracted files, how to set the modification date, and whether to open the extracted file and delete the original file from the system. Currently, Mac users can get two different versions of this utility. The first is the standalone version available from the Mac App Store. In this version, you need to provide authorization the first time you run the application to unzip the file. However, if you choose the non-Mac App Store version, i.e. the non-sandbox version, this is not necessary.
