File formats such as DVD-Video, Video CDs and streaming protocols so that you can transfer media files from other computer networks and transcode media files. This version of VLC Media Player for Windows 10 differs from previous versions in that it is compatible with the Microsoft Metro design language and Windows 10 GUI. Version 3.0.10 of VLC is also compatible with Windows 8.1.
Capabilities
As a batch media player, VLC is capable of playing most video file formats. This includes incomplete or corrupted files that you have downloaded via peer-to-peer. Examples of this are MPEG transport streams or TS files that have been extracted from high-definition video over a FireWire cable. This will allow you to see the rendering progress of the video while it is playing. VLC also supports audio and video in libavcodec and libavformat, allowing you to play H.264, MPEG-4, FLV and MXF files.
You can also use VLC to play DVDs and Blu-Ray DVDs as it blocks the DVD region encoding found on drives with RPC-1 firmware. It does this by using CSS encryption to play any DVD, RPC-1 and RPC-2 disc. Videos extracted from these CDs can be distorted, rotated, split, deinterlaced, and mirrored using VLC’s built-in editing tools. Videos can also be exported as ASCII images and Windows DreamScene. As with screencasts, VLC uses DirectX to display videos as desktop wallpaper.

You can access all of these features on other Windows computers if you save the program to a USB stick or similar extern al drive. The program can be extended using the Lua scripting language. This will allow the program to play video in AVCHD format, a format common among high-definition camcorders.
