WeChat is a multi-purpose application developed by the Chinese company Tencent. While it is primarily a messaging and social networking app, it also comes with a mobile payment feature known as WePay. Initially released for mobile devices, WeChat is now available for desktop devices as well.

Login

To use WeChat for Windows, users must first have a WeChat for mobile account. Users will need to scan the QR code displayed on the login screen of the Windows version using their mobile device. Due to strict security measures, it is not possible to register from the WeChat desktop application.

Interface

WeChat has a simple, intuitive interface. On the left side of the window, users will find a panel with their list of contacts and chats. On the right side is a chat window where users can send messages to their friends.

Additional features

Like other messaging apps, users can send media files to each other via WeChat. WeChat also supports group chats and video calls. One of the very useful features of WeChat is the built-in screenshot feature. With it, users can take and send screenshots directly from the desktop app.

Eligible Companion Application

For loyal WeChat users, this desktop version will surely come in handy. However, new users may have difficulty setting it up. A tedious registration process that requires a mobile app will turn off potential users. However, once set up correctly, the desktop version becomes the perfect companion app for the mobile version.
