Nigerian marvelous Adeyemi breaks Salzburg Champions League record

Nigerian prodigy Karim Adeyemi on Tuesday broke a Champions League record for Red Bull Salzburg, when he scored in their 3-1 win at Lokomotiv Moscow.

Adeyemi added Salzburg’s third in the 81st minute at RZD Arena, ultimately killing the game after Anton Miranchuk pulled one out for Lokomotiv two minutes earlier after a first-half brace by visitors’ Mergim Berisha.

Finding the net, Adeyemi becomes, at the age of 18 years and 318 days, the youngest player to score in the Champions League for RB Salzburg.

His goal capped a great outing for the Austrian champions who ultimately ended a five-game UCL streak without a win, losing four and drawing a draw during that time.

Surprisingly, their goals have been impressive even though they failed to win, with only Bayern Munich scoring more goals per game in UCL’s last two campaigns away from the clubs to feature in both editions of the tournament. .

As the impressive Berisha will make headlines, the goal was a historic moment for Adeyemi, who continues to rebuild his career after leaving Bayern Munich in a cloud after discipline issues overshadowed his immense potential.

He was Austrian champion with the club last season and has scored one league goal in six T-Mobile Bundesliga games so far this season.

The young Munich player represented Germany up to the U-17 level, but has yet to advance in the national team rankings.

He is eligible in Nigeria through his father, but could also apply for Romania, currently ranked 37th in the world, through his mother.

Despite the victory, which ended a three-game losing streak at UCL, Salzburg will face them as they look to advance to the knockout stages after joining Group A alongside Bayern and Atlético Madrid.

The two heavyweights are currently in place to reach the round of 16, with 13 and six points respectively, but Salzburg could advance Atleti to second place if they beat them in Austria in a take-away clash. all in week six of the game, December 9.
