The action of the night started with a battle of former world champions when Beaton and Waites locked their horns in a thriller, which saw the former Grand Slam champion rise to five heights on the way to a 5-3 victory.
Beaton insisted in a playful way before the crash he had been practicing for three weeks in preparation and made an overwhelming start, closing successive catches on 13, 12 and 12 darts to lead 3-2.
However, Waites shot to consecutive highs and recorded seven perfect darts before closing an 11-dart break on the penultimate stage, and the single shot break proved sufficient for the Yorkshireman.
That set the tone for a high-quality session and Smith started his season in style, averaging 99.70 and gains of 101 and 120 to seal a 5-1 victory over Meulenkamp.
The Dutchman's troubles were compounded moments later by the courtesy of more punishments of more than tonnes, this time imposed by Waites, who broke out in a 5-0 win despite averaging three points less than "Ron The Bomb ".
The double world champion converted late 115, 100 and 130 in the first four stages and, despite Meulenkamp pleading with Waites to “ stop bragging & # 39; & # 39; & # 39; he could not claim to a consolation phase after a series of lost doubles in the fifth stage.
Smith faced Beaton again in the fourth fight of the night and & # 39; Smudger & # 39; challenged finishes 160 and 110 of & # 39; The Bronzed Adonis & # 39; and survived two darts in the penultimate stretch to secure his second straight win.
This created a direct shootout between former couple partners Waites and Smith to determine the group winner, but a flawless performance in the outside ring of & # 39; Scotty 2 Hotty & # 39; saw him seal first place.
The five-time main winner did not miss a single double dart, nailing 70, 92, 66 before performing an 88 assassination on the bull to conclude an impressive 5-2 victory.
Beaton and Meulenkamp were playing with pride at the end of the night and in a competition full of entertaining verbal fights, the Dutchman won a decisive victory with a spectacular final of 161 to leave & # 39; The Adonis & # 39; without victory at night.
The first 32-night tour of PDC is entering its last week, and with all Tour card holders having a chance to play, the final groups will be filled by those in second place.
The places in groups 26-32 for the finalists of the previous group are allocated according to the position of the PDC Order of Merit, and players with higher positions have the first option to compete a second time.
