“Anonymous” hackers reappear amid riots in the United States

Expanding news.

While the U.S. grapples with widespread civil unrest following death of Geroge Floyd in dozens of cities, the group “hacktiviste” Anonymous came back from the shadows.

the hackers collective It used to be a regular news gathering, targeting those he accused of injustice with cyber attacks.

After years of relative tranquility, seems to have resurfaced after the violent protests in Minneapolis over the death of George Floyd, promising to expose to the world the “Many crimes” of the city police.

However, it is not easy to determine what is truly the work of the mysterious group.

Who is anonymous?

The “hacktivist” collective has no face and no leadership. Their motto is simply “We are legion” ((“We are legion”), referring to his alleged large number of individuals.

Without a central command structure, everyone can pretend to be part of the group.

It also means that members can have very different priorities, and there is no single agenda.

But it is usually activists who target those they accuse of abuse of power. They do it very publicly, like hijack websites or force them to log out.

his the symbol is a Guy Fawkes mask, what was done famous for the graphic novel Alan Moore V of Vendetta, in which a An anarchist revolutionary puts on the mask to overthrow a corrupt fascist government.

In the first place, the Minneapolis Police Department website was temporarily offline over the weekend in an alleged distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack.

This is a simple but effective way to cyber attack that floods a data server until it can no longer track and stops working – in the same way that shopping sites can go offline when too many people flood it to capture high demand products.

Explanation: What is a DDoS attack?
A database of email addresses and passwords that claim to be hacked from the police system is also outstanding and linked to Anonymous.

However, no evidence that police servers were hacked and an investigator, Troy Hunt, said that the credentials were most likely compiled from the oldest data breaches.

What we almost certainly have here is the result of someone selecting each email address from http://ci.minneapolis.mn.us from old lists of breaches or stuffing of credentials and to pass her off as something that is not. There is nothing to indicate that this is legitimate.

Nail a small United Nations agency’s website has become a memorial to Mr. Floyd, replacing its content with the message “Stay in power, George Floyd” (“Rest in power George Floyd!”)with the logo of Anonymous.

On Twitter, unverified messages have also gone viral, apparently showing police radios that play music and impede communication.

However, experts suggest that unlikely to be a hackAnd it could be the result of a piece of stolen material that was seized by protesters at the scene – if the videos are authentic in the first place.

Anonymous activists also circulate multi-year-old accusations against President Trump, extract from the documents of a civil trial which was deliberately rejected by the accuser before being tried.

Have they ever acted because of race?

Although there is no unified approach among anonymous members, the group has attacked race relations groups in the past.

In 2014, when filming Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, sparked protests, anonymous members threatened to attack the city if protesters were injured.

They then deactivated the city’s website, compromising communications with the town hall and targeting the city’s police chief.

Later this year, “War declared” on the Ku Klux Klan (KKK), publishing the personal data of the alleged members online.

Some anonymous members also attacked the campaign group’s website Black Lives Matter for an alleged “racism against whites”.

Is this return credible?

The death of George Floyd led to what the BBC New York correspondent Nick Bryant described as the greatest racial unrest and civil unrest since the assassination of Martin Luther King in 1968.

It is in this context that a Facebook page claiming to be linked to Anonymous

published a video on the death of Mr. Floyd, alleging a number of other crimes involving the Minneapolis police, and threatening to act.
