Fallout 76 Fans can unwrap their freebies a bit earlier this year, as the Steel Dawn update released earlier. Originally, the Brotherhood of Steel patch was supposed to be released on December 1. However, circumstances changed after the update was shipped to Xbox earlier. Bethesda explained the situation in a post on the official Fallout website, writing:
Earlier today, a bug caused players in our Xbox community to download the Steel Dawn update earlier than expected, but prevented them from playing. We immediately looked for ways to get our Xbox players back into the game as soon as possible, but through our discussions, the entire BGS team was confident that Steel Dawn was ready to go.
As a result, instead of canceling the update and making everyone wait an extra week, we’ve decided to release the Steel Dawn update to all platforms today, November 24th.
We plan to start maintenance on all platforms in 4:00 p.m. ET; and we are waiting Fallout 76 be offline for about six hours. Once the maintenance is complete, you can get started with the Steel Dawn questline, your first CAMP shelter and everything in this update.
The Steel Dawn update includes the first part of a massive quest chain, similar to April’s Wastelanders expansion. The player meets the Brotherhood, earns their trust, and begins making decisions that will determine what the Brotherhood of Appalachian Steel ends up becoming: benevolent protectors or isolationist activists.
The Steel Dawn update also has a big addition for players who like to build their CAMPs; Players will now have access to instanced shelters, which provide an area where they can build much more elaborate and detailed bases. These underground shelters can look like a cozy house, military outpost, or secret agent base, which is great for role play and community use.
Steel Dawn is now available on all platforms and is a free update.
