Building on the success of Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 1, Producer Yoshinori Kitase and Co-Director Naoki Hamaguchi want to exceed player expectations with Part 2, and surprise those who played the original and already know what’s coming next.
Twitter user aitaikimochi provided a translation of the duo’s speech at the CEDEC conference. Hamaguchi added that several developers who joined the team have played the remake and brought new ideas to the table. He teased a new kind of action combat system, but didn’t provide more details.
Kitase said:
Those who played the original game probably know what’s going on in the story and are curious about what will happen next. However, because they know the story, it gives us the opportunity to offer them something that they are hoping for that makes them think, “ Oh, so that’s what really happened ” but also show them something that not only surprises, but also goes beyond your expectations. Because we already have the original game, if we can express these elements well, it can become something that users can certainly look forward to! We did that in part 1 as well. Those who have played part 1 already have an idea of what kind of game we are making. We want to create a game that meets your expectations, but that also misleads you … in a good way.
