However, the difficulty now becomes the availability of HBO Max. While the service was available on the PS4, the PlayStation 5 does not yet have HBO Max available. (The introduction of the PS4 version on the PS5 on an external hard drive is greeted with a message saying that the app can only be used on PS4.) Yes, there are probably at least five other devices in my house that can receive HBO Max. Yes, I could reconnect my PS4 to see things (at a lower resolution). But that still doesn’t excuse the PS5 for lacking the massively popular streaming service, especially when the PS4 had it and there is a reasonable expectation that the new console will support it as well.
To be honest, I have no idea what is going on behind the scenes. I tried investigating if and when an HBO Max app could come from PS5, and saw a lot of guesswork and speculation without any concrete sources or information. One person alleges that exclusivity agreements with current applications such as Netflix and Disney + are keeping other streaming apps out of the console until Q1 2021 (so they get buttons on the PS5 remote).
Hopefully HBO Max will arrive on PS5 at some point, but the question is, exactly when and if it will be in time to see most of the Warner Bros. movies. who will debut on the service next year. Now that the PS5 has been released worldwide, Sony is focused on meeting high inventory demands, but almost a month after its launch, it also needs to start communicating regarding player feedback on the UI. and the missing streaming apps, including (but certainly not limited to) HBO Max.
