Bungie CEO Pete Parsons revealed that the developer started “incubating the potential” for new titles and talent about three years ago, before parting ways with publishing giant Activision.
Speaking to Metro, Parsons said that while Bungie’s primary goal is to make games, incubations also revolve around the process of building talented teams that can work together and “create magical things.” He gave the example of ME Chung, who had previously designed Destination
social systems and is currently leading a new project.
“I was actually on the phone right before I called one of our incubation managers about his project,” Parsons joked. “I think you will be very excited. I wish I could say more, but I think you will be very excited.
Bungie has been quite diplomatic about its separation from Activision in 2019. Previous reports claimed its developers sighed with relief, but the two companies said they have a cordial relationship. However, Bungie made no secret of the fact that they wanted creative freedom that they didn’t have with a publisher.
“It’s about the creative freedom to build the worlds we want to build, to connect people globally, on any platform and from all walks of life,” Parsons explained. “It’s a really big deal for us. So when you’re limited that way, and again, I’m not going to cast a shadow on anyone, but when you’re limited that way, it really presents a creative challenge for a team.
While we don’t know what Bungie is working on, we do know that it has registered a trademark for something called import
