PlayStation Store unusable for PS Vita players, now fixed

PlayStation Vita owners hadn’t been able to buy games or even download titles they already owned from the handheld in the past two days. As many Reddit users around the world have reported, attempting to do so produced a variety of error messages. Over the past few hours, the issue appears to have been resolved.

The “NP-2245-3” error was the most common error encountered by players. That said, Vita “Unable to connect to PlayStation Network within the time limit.” This bug had affected many players several years ago, but the solution found at the time did not work this time. Other players had managed to find a solution for stores in the United States and Canada. This involved logging into PlayStation Store on a mobile phone and using old store links. Unfortunately, this doesn’t seem to work for stores outside of these two regions.

Last month, Sony made changes to the web and mobile versions of PlayStation Store that prevented the purchase of PlayStation Vita games and DLC. Despite this, Sony has confirmed that Vita owners can still make new purchases and download their existing library through the Store app on the handheld itself. Gamers started to worry after the store app crashed for almost two days. Sony has not even acknowledged the problem, let alone set a deadline to resolve it.

Now reports have started to come in that the issue is fixed so it looks like it was only a temporary bug. I tried to download one of my existing purchases to my Vita and I was successful. This is particularly good news, as there are still new games to be released for Sony’s latest portable gaming system, and gamers still need a way to purchase them.
