The PS5 will be backwards compatible with ‘99%’ of the thousands of ‘PS4 games Sony has tested’

Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO and President Jim Ryan said that “99 percent” of the “thousands” of PlayStation 4 games tested will be playable on PlayStation 5 through backward compatibility. Ryan also spoke about Sony’s new PS Plus collection, which will offer “18 proprietary PS4 titles for download to PlayStation online subscribers”.

Ryan went on to say that he “waits up to four years for the expected life of the PlayStation 4.”“The PS4 community will continue to be incredibly important to us for three to four years,” said Ryan. “Many will move on to the PS5, hopefully if we do our job well, but tens of millions will remain committed to the PS4.”

This commitment to the PS4 was echoed by Sony’s announcement that Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Sackboy a Big Adventure, and Horizon Forbidden West will also be released on PS4.

However, this move appears to go against Ryan’s previous statement that he was not interested in making PS4 versions of PS5 games.
