A few weeks before launch, Ubisoft announced that Watch Dogs: Legion would receive an online feature in a free update on December 3. However, these plans have since been rejected. In the wake of other ongoing issues, the development team chose to focus their efforts on stabilizing the game. As a result, the inline component is now on track to launch on an unspecified date at the start. from 2021.
The first step in alleviating the issues that continue to affect the enjoyment of the game by many players is a new patch. Title update 2.20 will roll out to all platforms this week, addressing a number of issues. PS4 and PS5 gamers can specifically expect the patch to fix gameplay issues and stability improvements. The patch notes for both PlayStation consoles are as follows:
Playstation 4
- Fixed an issue that could cause the game to crash if a character model was not loading correctly.
- Fixed an issue that could cause the game to crash when exiting the main menu.
- Other improvements and stability fixes have been added to the game to prevent crashes.
Playstation 5
- Fixed an issue where the game would crash when launching the game when the graphics settings (e.g. brightness) were changed.
- Fixed an issue that could cause the game to crash when exiting the main menu.
- Fixed an issue that could cause a saved cloud download to fail on the first try.
- Fixed a crash that could occur when entering the EPC area in the “Lost in the Process” mission.
- Fixed an issue that could lengthen save times.
Regarding the delay of the online mode, a blog post from Ubisoft explains that push counts as part of the commitment to stabilize the overall experience first for all players. The statement says in part,
As part of our commitment to resolve gambling issues, we have decided to delay the online mode of Watch Dogs: Legion until early 2021. This will allow us to focus on solo troubleshooting, and give us more time to test the experience online to ensure a smooth launch of the mode.
