HOUSTON – Monday's reopening is the start of something new for most gyms and their training experience will be different from the past.

Almost all gymnasiums have declared that they will have separate equipment or any other machines turned off, so they cannot be used near other members.

In addition, they promise to further clean up training stations.

We got information from some local gyms on what members should expect and the state criteria to open.

State Protocol

The state requires gymnasiums to limit attendance to 25% of their capacity, as do other companies currently open.

They asked employees to check the temperature and stay home when they feel sick.

The showers and changing rooms must remain closed during the first phase, but the toilets will be open.

Customers should wear gloves that cover all of their hands and fingers.

Fitness for life

Gyms like Lifetime Fitness are now asking members to book classes.

Them too require reservations for the children's center, according to this email sent to members.

24 hour fitness

At 24 Hour Fitness, they are no longer open for 24 hours. They close overnight for cleaning.

In addition, members scanned their fingerprints to log into the reception.

Now they have asked members to download their app to register. You can also book trainings via the app, as only a limited number of people are allowed to participate.

YMCA

They are not planning to open yet.

The YMCA says it has planned a phased approach to reopen from June 1 in some places. They will launch the Houston locations which will open on Monday, but they have no plans to go there yet.

Here's what you need to do to protect yourself:

  • Clean everything you touch
  • wash your hands
  • Wear a mask
  • Wear gloves, not the type with the fingers exposed, but long training gloves, like these.
  • And think about the location of your training towel. If you wear it on the seats or on the gym floor, don't put it on your face.
