‘Now it has affected our kids’: Wives of U.S. Capitol Police Whip Acting Police Chief for Lack of COVID-19 Protection

LaToya A. Getz, wife of a Capitol Police officer, sent a letter seen by TMZ to Acting Capitol Police Chief Yogananda Pittman, criticizing her for her “lack of leadership.”

“I represent the wives of the United States Capitol Police who are carrying the weight right now, and we will not be ignored,” Getz wrote.

According to Getz, the Capitol police were not vaccinated, although she had written two letters requesting their vaccination. “This has fallen on deaf ears,” he wrote.

She says her husband has tested positive, adding: “We took every precaution, because I am immunocompromised, to be safe for almost a year, but our 14 year old son has it, from ‘today.”

“We are offended that the leaders of the United States Capitol Police have let down their employees and our families,” he said.

Getz asked for answers on why the officers had not received equipment and were not vaccinated.

She issued an ultimatum saying that the wives “expected answers to our questions within 72 hours.”

On January 6, hundreds of people stormed the Capitol building in an attempt to prevent Congress from certifying the victory of President Joe Biden, following a speech by Donald Trump at the “ Stop the Steal ”. Five people were killed and police opened more than 170 files related to the riots.

Steven Sund was the Capitol Police chief at the time of the riots, but was quickly replaced by Yogananda Pittman after resigning following the violent insurgency. Pittman later issued a statement to Congress, formally apologizing for the security breaches.

Pittman testified in a closed-door briefing with members of the House Appropriations Committee that the Capitol Police did not “live up to their own high standards or theirs,” before noting that they were present for “Apologize sincerely on behalf of the ministry.
