Un inversor activista criticó el lunes a Walt Disney Co. por su “mediocridad” en inteligencia artificial y realidad aumentada, continuando su campaña por puestos en el consejo de administración del gigante de los medios.
Blackwells Capital dijo que Disney DIS,
enfrenta “importantes problemas tecnológicos” que están dejando a la empresa detrás de sus competidores y aboga por que la empresa establezca un único director de tecnología para supervisar los esfuerzos tecnológicos en todos sus sectores.

Actualmente, Disney tiene un CTO que supervisa los esfuerzos de entretenimiento y otro que supervisa los parques, experiencias y productos, señaló Blackwells. “Eliminar la fragmentación tecnológica es un primer paso necesario”, dijo el inversor en una presentación el lunes, afirmando que los actuales CTO están “enterrados bajo la burocracia corporativa”.
Disney no respondió de inmediato a una solicitud de MarketWatch para comentar sobre la presentación de Blackwell.
Netflix Inc. NFLX,
tiene un CTO en su C-suite, según la presentación, mientras que Amazon.com Inc. AMZN,
tiene uno fuera de la C-suite pero que cubre todas las áreas del negocio. Apple Inc. AAPL,
tiene varios vicepresidentes senior de tecnología en su C-suite.
Si bien el director ejecutivo Bob Iger permanecerá en Disney hasta 2026, Blackwells cree que el próximo director ejecutivo “… debe tener raíces en la tecnología”.

Según la presentación, Disney tiene oportunidades para aprovechar más plenamente los beneficios de la IA y la computación espacial, incluida la realidad aumentada. Con la IA, Disney podría gestionar mejor las multitudes, y con la computación espacial podría mejorar la experiencia del parque con ofertas como “un sable de luz en 3D con un Jedi en Tatooine”, dicen los inversores.
Blackwells está en medio de una lucha por puestos en la junta directiva de Disney. La crítica del inversor activista a la posición tecnológica general de Disney encaja con su llamado a que un experto en tecnología independiente se una a la junta, algo que Blackwells considera “imprescindible, no sólo algo agradable de tener”.
La presentación también criticó a Disney por “gastar menos de lo necesario”.[ing]”en investigación y desarrollo en comparación con otros reproductores multimedia.
La reunión anual de Disney tendrá lugar el 3 de abril.
