V seems to have disconnected the initiator from the website and the store. Although Epic has not yet officially announced what the free game will be, many expect it to be GTA V, but have been able to verify it. Epic confirmed the problems:
We are currently experiencing high traffic in the Epic Games store.
We are aware that users may experience slow load times, 500 launcher errors or failures at this time and we are actively working on the scale. We will provide you with an update as soon as possible.

This legal action may even affect other Epic services, as Fortnite also acknowledged service issues at the time of writing:
We're investigating issues on PC and Mac that can affect launcher connections and in-game purchases.
We will provide an update as we have more information. pic.twitter.com/YlFUP3vQEy

If you go to Epic Games Store website, you can see a mysterious game window, on which we are ready to learn more today. However, after yesterday’s rumors, a deleted tweet from Epic Games Store’s Twitter account confirmed that GTA V will be today’s mystery game.
Fortunately, the Twitter user Wario64 captured the tweet before it was deleted, and you can see the full ad below. According to the tweet, you can get the game for free until May 21 and keep it forever.

GTA V is now available for PC via Steam and Rockstar Games Launcher. The additional content of the game is not yet clear; we will make sure to hear more when the news is officially revealed later today.
This follows news in late April that saw GTA V leave the Xbox Game Pass, which was replaced by Red Dead Redemption 2 on May 7. If you're looking for a reason to enter GTA V about seven years after its release, check out our review, where we call it a "ridiculously fun iconic game".
