Maserati mocks the latest MC20 prototype dedicated to Sir Stirling Moss

An exclusive MC20 prototype dedicated to Sir Stirling Moss. Testing of the new Trident sports supercar continues.

Modena, May 13, 2020: A prototype of the Maserati MC20, the new Maserati supercar, will pay tribute to Sir Stirling Moss, the British racing ace who died on April 12 at the age of 90.

The design used for this pro totype is borrowed from the Maserati Eldorado, the emblematic car driven at its beginnings in Monza in 1958 by Stirling Moss himself, in the "Trofeo dei due Mondi".

It is very appropriate that the Trident brand chose the date of May 13 to recall the great British driver, since there is no doubt that his victory at the Monaco F1 Grand Prix on May 13, 1956, at the wheel of the Maserati 250F, stands out among the many trophies in the champion's collection. It was an incredible victory because Moss led the race from the first to the last of the 100 laps around the winding and demanding circuit of Monaco. The day of Maserati's triumph ended also taking third place, also in 250F, by French driver Jean Behra.

Moss, who has recorded 16 wins in 66 starts at Formula 1 races, is one of the most successful drivers to have won the world title. Sir Stirling was on the verge of reaching the crown on more than one occasion, finishing second four times and third at three championships. For this reason, he was known as the "king without a crown". During the 1956 season and a few races in 1957, Moss drove a Maserati 250F ("his favorite", as he often remembered), just behind Juan Manuel Fangio. In addition, Argentinian rival Moss won his title in 1957 at the wheel of another 250F, confirming the reliability and superiority of the car built in Modena.

With this MC20 “signature” prototype from Stirling Moss, Maserati wants to commemorate one of the best names in the history of world motorsport, who has written some of the best pages in his own racing history. The British driver's list of Maserati cars also includes the Type 60 Birdcage, Type 61 and 300 S.

The choice of a prototype MC20 to dedicate to Sir Stirling is no coincidence: through this model, the Trident brand aims to emphasize its sporting vocation and, above all, to return to a leading role in racing circuits, after winning the last world championship in 2010 with another extraordinary car, the MC12.

The arrival of the MC20 is an important event for the company based in Modena, not only because of the return of the race, but also because it will be the first car to adopt a new engine 100% designed, developed and produced by Maserati.

We hope Sir Striling Moss liked the new MC20 – a car that fully embodies the truest Maserati values in terms of performance, driving pleasure and innovative content expressed superlatively in all models of the Trident brand.
