Apple’s Weather app was also recently brought to macOS, but it lacks the menu bar integration that most third-party weather apps offer. So, along with various other features, there is still a need for a replacement for the built-in app.

weather forecast Displays detailed weather information in the menu bar, with the option to choose exactly which information is included. It allows you to add up to eight locations to manage.

Weather information in the menu bar

The app does not automatically detect your location. You have to access it from the menu bar and add a location or locations by entering a zip code followed by a comma and country code if you’re not from the US. Any of these can be set as default.

Initially, the app only shows you city names and temperatures. If you go to Preferences, you can choose from a variety of other formats if you want to see more information. This can include weather conditions, humidity, temperature, and wind speed, in various orders.

Weather data at a glance

The idea is to have all the necessary information visible in the menu bar so that there is no need to open the weather app. However, if you’re interested in a detailed forecast, you can access it from OpenWeather’s menu bar in your browser.

You can adjust some other preferences. The refresh interval can be customized, you can set a shortcut to refresh data or open the forecast, and you can play a sound when the weather information is updated.

Postal code requirements make the app unusable in some locations

You won’t be able to add a location without a zip code, the problem is that some countries don’t use these. For example, if you want to know what the weather is like in Dubai, you can’t add it as a location. If anything, I can’t figure it out.

Not to mention adding a city without knowing the zip code requires you to look up this information. Optionally providing the name of a city will make adding a location much easier.

Overall, Qwik Weather is a great weather app for a menu bar, but its use may be limited in countries that don’t use zip codes. But if that’s not an issue, the app should serve you well.
