The Weather Dock doesn’t seem to have any of these shortcomings. It’s free and open source, but it gives you more weather information than most other apps, even some paid ones.

Weather data in the menu bar

First, the app displays the current temperature in the menu bar, along with other optional information such as how warm it feels, temperature units, weather description, and city name.

By default, the application displays the weather for the current location. To change it, click the menu bar icon to bring up the extra info panel. The location name is actually an editable text field, so just click on it and enter a different name.

In addition to temperature, you can also get the current humidity, wind speed, pressure, sunrise and sunset times, and air quality. For the latter, hover over the air quality indicator to see more details.

The app also provides an hourly forecast for your current location, as well as a daily forecast for the next week. If you hover over any daily forecast, you can also see more information for each of those days.

Excellent and completely free weather app

As long as you don’t need to monitor multiple locations at once, Weather Dock should be an ideal app for most users. You can change locations at any time, but you can only watch one at a time.

You can see all the basic information you need in the menu bar at any time, and the additional data available by clicking the icon is more than enough for all but the most geeky of weather lovers.
