California refuses SpaceX grant application: is the Musk government’s sauce train coming to an end?

California hits Elon Musk.

A state panel voted on Friday to reject Musk’s request for $ 655,000 in job and training funding for SpaceX, citing the CEO’s recent bizarre behavior and threats to remove Tesla from the state.

We have documented Musk’s threats to leave California and the CEO’s alleged plans to bring his operations to Texas or Nevada.

Five panelists voted against the proposal and two voted for. The California Employment Training Panel openly discussed CEO tweets and media reports of the layoffs at SpaceX headquarters in Hawthorne, Reuters

.

Gretchen Newsom, panel member and political director of a local IBEW electrical workers union, said: “In my opinion, given the CEO’s recent threats to leave the state of California and everything we have discussed today, this proposal is not enough to make me feel safe.”

“SpaceX is a different company, but they have the same CEO” she concludes.

Tesla and SpaceX remain non-union stores. The public funds were supposed to help SpaceX train 900 new employees for its Starlink satellite project and hire 300 more to work on its Starship program. It is not clear whether SpaceX will go ahead with recruitment without state aid.

Remember, last week longtime Tesla fans turned against the company, as many accused Musk of placing Tesla’s share price, let alone personal gain, at- above the safety of his workers.

After President Trump spoke out in defense of Musk, Alameda County withdrew and Musk successfully reopened his factory.

But apparently, the bad taste that the incident left in Musk’s mouth led him to divulge a story about Tesla choosing Austin, Texas as the site for his next Gigafactory. Tesla has four gigafactories: Sparks, Nevada, Buffalo, New York, Shanghai, China and one under construction in Berlin.

Hope other US states. United States Follow the example of California and decide to cut the train of Musk sauce. It would surely be difficult for Tesla to function with demand and production at blocking levels of coronaviruses, and without the help of ZEV credits or government subsidies…
