General Motors would develop a new 6.2-liter V8 engine; however, the make and model for which it is intended are not clearly defined. A new report from The Fast Lane truck It cites "an anonymous suggestion from a source with internal knowledge of GM powertrain development" who told the publication that the Detroit automaker was working on a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 for its trucks and / or SUV. It's a rumor, so keep the salt close.
Unfortunately, there are few details about the new factory beyond what the source said. However, the person told the post that the engine could power a high-performance version of the Chevy Tahoe, potentially a Tahoe SS, notes the post. The source also said it could fuel the rumored Chevy Silverado ZRX (spy photo on photo above), the bow tie fighter against the Ford Raptor and the Ram Rebel TRX.
With such sparse details and a broad brush, it is difficult to determine the veracity of the rumor. Rumors and spy photos suggest that Chevy will respond to the improved off-road performance of Ford and Ram with the Silverado ZRX, a step above the Chevy Colorado ZR2. However, it won't happen until model year 2022 after Chevy has updated the regular Silverado 1500 to 2021. Additionally, previous rumors have suggested that the ZRX will not receive any engine modifications.
A successful Tahoe does not seem out of reach either. Chevy offers the Tahoe RST 2020 for the 2020 model year with a naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V8 engine that generates 420 horsepower (313 kilowatts), which is a serious blow. However, a Tahoe SS with a supercharged V8 sounds good. The Tahoe has received a substantial overhaul for the 2021 model year, allowing Chevy to introduce a new performance model to celebrate the new SUV, although there is no indication that # 39; a Tahoe SS is under development.
