DBS promises that there will be no layoffs and will hire more than 2,000 new employees in 2020


DBS protects jobs and increases hiring despite the economic slowdown caused by Covid-19.

The bank announced yesterday (May 14) that it recruit more than 2,000 people in Singapore this year.

It also assured its 12,000 existing employees that there would be no layoffs. Employees unable to perform their duties due to the restrictions imposed by the circuit breakers will also remain at full salary.

Of the 2,000 positions he plans to fill this year, half of them are part of the recruitment of companies as usual, while the other half will be made up new positions.

About 200 new positions will be offered to recent graduates and people with less than two years of work experience.

As part of the SGUnited internship program, DBS will also hire 500 graduates from universities, polytechnics and the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) for apprenticeships of six to 12 months, with the possibility of conversion to full-time.

The remaining new roles are for experienced professionals, particularly in the areas of growth technologies.

DBS plans to hire 300 people in areas such as UX / UI, data science, fraud detection compliance, and consumer and institutional banking technology.

He will also hire and train 60 people in artificial intelligence, cloud computing, full-stack development and data analysis.

Its training programs aim to help experienced professionals to start a technological career in financial services, but they will also go further to retrain some "without prior technological experience".

In addition, DBS will continue to manage its annual internship programs and will offer over 400 internship opportunities in 2020.

DBS CEO Piyush Gupta said: "Job seekers, including recent graduates this year, are understandably worried about the scarcity of opportunities available as companies tighten their belts."
